Maintenance PlanAn HVAC system can cost as much as a car and is typically the most expensive appliance in our home. It is important to keep regular maintenance on your vehicle or you could have costly repairs. Typically there is a trip to the dealer or garage twice a year. Over time wear parts like brakes and tires need to be replaced.

If you drive 15,000 miles a year at an average speed 50 mph – that equates to roughly 300 hours a year. In Texas your system will run on average 8 hours per day over the year – more in the high temperatures of the summer and heating in the low winter temperatures also depends on the target temperatures you have for your home. Over the year 8 x 365 = approx. 2900 hours

An HVAC system is like your car, it needs to be checked out consistently. Over time the system efficiency will decrease as it is working harder than before. As simple as a filter change, if this is not done it will cause major issues with your system. Your filters are to catch dirt and dust in your home. When you find a clogged filter that shows the dirt being backed up into your home. This will lead to your air quality, triggering allergies and even asthma. Lack of filter changes is the largest leading cause of issues that we at Southern Comfort Mechanical come across. The filter is like the oil in your car it needs to be kept clean and periodically changed.

The remainder of the system is like the engine and drivetrain. They have moving parts and will need adjustment from time to time. Systems tend to breakdown when they are working at their hardest in the summer high temperatures or low winter temperatures when you rely on your system the most.

The methodology of maintaining your system has been adopted by many industries including the HVAC industry.

The original development of this practice comes from manufacturing operations. When a production line breakdowns this greatly impacts the ability to meet the customer’s orders. The development of the routine checks on equipment was developed to prevent breakdowns by cleaning, lubricating and inspecting critical parts. Although the practice makes sense it is tough to adhere to. Toyota is a leading example, with equipment painted white to make oil leaks apparent. This allows them to quickly address the issue before they impact the quality and performance of the equipment.

How Much Is It?

Fall and Spring maintenance is $170 for the first unit and $150 for any additional unit per year. If needed, filters are provided at an additional cost. Call today to schedule your service.
